This school district is located in Outagamie County. The majority of residents in this county are Trump supporters, and spent 2011-2018 Standing With Walker supporting his efforts to screw teachers out of 50 years of improvements to salaries and benefits.
Even though Scott Walker is no longer Wisconsin's governor, residents of this county are solid MAGA Trump supporters with minimal support or appreciation for the contributions of strong public schools to the overall success of communities and businesses in their county.
Average teacher pay in this county ranges from $53,778 to $63,102. The Hortonville school district average teacher salary was dead last in Outagamie County at $53,778.
The increase in average teacher salary since 2011 was only 7.3%, which was far below the rate of inflation.
This district increased Superintendent pay by 31.8% during the same period, placing a priority on maintaining and even growing the value of the Superintendent's salary during rising inflation. The Hortonville School Board increased the Superintendent salary over FOUR TIMES the increase in average teacher salaries.
Paying minimal salaries to teachers while lavishing large pay increases on the Superintendent is part of the Hortonville school district DNA. 2024 marks the 50 year anniversary of the violent Hortonville teacher's strike in 1974 when the Hortonville school district fired 84 teachers for striking over low pay. Striking teachers were driven from the community by acts of violence against them organized by the majority of the Hortonville community that called themselves the Hortonville Vigilantes.
Despite numerous violent attacks on striking teachers, local law enforcement was sympathetic to the Hortonville Vigilantes and the perpetrators of the violence against teachers were never brought to justice. Though McHugh's tavern, which was the headquarters of the Hortonville Vigilante Association is long gone, many of the extreme anti-teacher attitudes of the Hortonville community still underlie the actions of the Hortonville school board to this day.
For all of this reasons, we rate the career prospect for teachers in this district to be a DEAD END job.

Sick of the School Board Lavishing Big Raises on the Superintendent While Screwing Teachers?
Time to Send a Message to the School Board.....
Without a Guarantee of a BIG RAISE for signing your contract for the 2024-25 SY,
Make your School District WAIT until the week of June 12th to return your contract.
All contracts due by Saturday June 15th.
This is one of over 200 Wisconsin school districts have SCREWED teachers (50,000+) since 2011 while giving MASSIVE pay raises to the Superintendent.
Make your District value YOUR RETURN for next year as much as they value the Superintendent.
Unless they offer at least a CPI raise for all teachers,
Hold off on returning your signed contract until June 12-14th.
