This school district is located in Milwaukee County, which has one of the highest costs of living in Wisconsin. Like every Wisconsin County, some Milwaukee County school districts are really great places to work while the school boards in other districts have used Act 10 to make their districts some of the most undesirable places to teach in Wisconsin.
Reflecting the high cost of living, teachers in Milwaukee County school districts earn some of the highest average salaries in Wisconsin. The average teacher salaries for Milwaukee County school districts range from $56,095 to $79,463 as of the 2022-23 school year.
The Milwaukee Public school district has a mid-range average teacher salary in Milwaukee County at $69.180. The average teacher salary in this district increased by 20.1% since 2011, which was about equal to the inflation rate.
Superintendent pay increased by 5.0% since 2011, well below the inflation rate.
Teachers in the Milwaukee Public Schools work to educate many of the most difficult to educate children in Wisconsin. They do the best job they can in an often difficult environment with aging facilities and minimal support. Teachers in the Milwaukee Public Schools are frequently targeted for disgusting slurs and undeserved criticism by right wing Racist Trump-Humpers from across Wisconsin who hate anyone who works to educate poor kids that don't have white skin.
While the Milwaukee Public School teachers work to educate some of the most difficult students in Wisconsin, like vultures circling a dying eagle, predatory voucher & "choice" schools actively recruit the easiest to educate students for their much better funded schools.
Unfortunately, few handicapped or disabled students are the "choice" for admission to the Voucher school program, leaving MPS to educate the vast majority of Milwaukee students with some type of learning disability, which are the most costly students to educate.
In spite of all of these headwinds and Republican supporting racists working to destroy MPS and diminish the success of the teachers who work there, teaching at many MPS schools is a rewarding endeavor.
We rate career employment potential for this district as Might Be a Good Place to Work.
April 2024 Referendum Results
Taxpayers approved a $252,000,000 referendum to allow Milwaukee public schools to exceed the revenue limit. Despite a massive anti-referendum spending campaign that was reportedly financed by several filthy rich Republican donors living in rural Wisconsin who hate the Milwaukee Public Schools, this referendum passed. Leading the opposition to this referendum were many suburban based business groups who like to tell city of Milwaukee residents how to live.
