This school district is located in Manitowoc County. By a strong majority, the residents of this county are strong Trump supporters, and spent 2012-2018 Standing With Walker. Not surprisingly, public education in this county suffers from a lack of support from many county residents who are strong MAGA supporters.
Since the MAGA Republican Dictatorship that rules Wisconsin enacted Act 10 in 2011, teachers in every school district in this county have suffered significant salary and benefit cuts imposed by MAGA-controlled school boards.
Average teacher pay in this county ranges from $53,585 to 64,323. The school district average teacher salary was the one of the mid-range ones at 57,564. The increase in average teacher salary since 2011 was 22.1%, which almost kept teachers up with inflation.
The Superintendent pay actually declined by 19.2% during this time. While we don't like to see any members of our public education community have declining wages, generally in the best places to work we have seen Superintendents ask that school boards prioritize scarce resources into retaining teachers. This may be the case in Michicot. Definitely a big difference from neighboring Manitowoc where the Superintendent got over a 50% raise.
Based on the numbers alone, we rate the Michicot school district as Might Be a Good Place to Teach.
This is one district that is a bright spot for an otherwise grim employment picture for teachers in pro-Trump Manitowoc County. The average teacher salary in tis district has just about kept up with inflation during the first decade of Act 10.
If you can stand living in an extremely pro-Republican voting area where 75% of your neighbors think that Trump won the 2020 election and that January 6, 2021 insurrection was just a normal group of tourists doing normal tourist activities, teaching in this district and living in Manitowoc County should be a good fit for you.
