April 2026 update: Following the defeat of another Operational Referendum, the Monroe school district will be laying off over 20 teachers this year, freezing or cutting the salaries and benefits of those still employed. There was massive community opposition to the referendum, with many community members making VILE personal attacks on social media against teachers.
For months prior to this referendum, teachers were ripped on social media and verbally attacked by total strangers in public places across the greater Monroe community. We wouldn't recommend any of our website viewers to pursue a job in the Monroe school district at this time.
Thanks to the anti-teacher actions of the majority of the Monroe community, we are changing our rating of this school district to Dead End job. Don't waste your life here-so many better options exist.
Green County is definitely purple Wisconsin with about 48% voting for Trump/Walker. Average teacher salaries in this county range from $50,605 to $65,820. Likely owing to it's proximity to northern Illinois, there were more double digit teacher raises in this County.
While not as good as Minnesota, many Wisconsin teachers could see $10,000 pay raises or more by migrating to the higher salaries and better schools located in northern Illinois.
The increase in average teacher salaries for the Monroe school district was 27%.
The average teacher salary was one of the highest in Green County at $65,755.
The Monroe school board raised the Superintendent pay by a nearly equal amount as the teacher pay. Superintendent pay rose by 28.7%.
We have found that school districts where the teachers & Superintendent are valued equally in terms of compensation are generally pretty good places to live and work.
