This school district is located in Monroe County, where the majority of residents are huge Trump supporters. Not surprisingly, public education in this county suffers from a lack of support from the mostly MAGA county residents.
The Monroe County school district average teacher salary ranges from $50,521 to $53,573. The Sparta school district had the lowest teacher average salary in Monroe County at $50,521.
The increase in average teacher salary for the Sparta school district was 12% since 2011, which was well below that rate of inflation.
During the same time period, the Sparta school board increased the Superintendent pay by 28%, which was just above the rate of inflation.
Prospective teachers who are being recruiting by the Sparta school district need to thoroughly research the many news stories about this district from the past five years. Google is your friend here, and may prevent you from making a career ending mistake.
Suffice to say that teachers working in this school district are under constant duress from right wing, anti-public education MAGA nut jobs. As reported by numerous local and even national media outlets, there is little community support for the Sparta public schools from the MAGA right wingers that fill school board meetings.
For all of these reasons, we rate the career potential for teachers in this school district as a DEAD END job.
With this county being located about 50 miles from the Minnesota border, we urge teachers living here to explore teaching vacancies just across the border in Minnesota. Successful candidates could earn starting salaries of $10-15,000 more than what teachers are now earning in Wisconsin, with far higher career salary potential.
April 2024 Referendum Results
Taxpayers approved a $1,500,000 non- recurring operational referendum.
Additional Information:
Seems that there has been a high turnover of teachers leaving this school district in recent years. In addition, we have read several news stories of state Republican Party involvement and spending to defeat a local referendum to keep a beloved Sparta elementary school open.
Especially with the majority pro-Trump voting patterns of this area, and the anti-teacher turmoil in both the schools and the greater community, we would caution prospective teachers to be very cautious before signing a contract to work in this community.

Sick of the School Board Lavishing Big Raises on the Superintendent While Screwing Teachers?
Time to Send a Message to the School Board.....
Without a Guarantee of a BIG RAISE for signing your contract for the 2024-25 SY,
Make your School District WAIT until the week of June 12th to return your contract.
All contracts due by Saturday June 15th.
This is one of over 200 Wisconsin school districts have SCREWED teachers (50,000+) since 2011 while giving MASSIVE pay raises to the Superintendent.
Make your District value YOUR RETURN for next year as much as they value the Superintendent.
Unless they offer at least a CPI raise for all teachers,
Hold off on returning your signed contract until June 12-14th.
