Shawano County

County Seat:
Shawano
WCA District:
North Central
With only a 44% Covid 19 vaccination rate, this county is has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Wisconsin.
During the Covid 19 pandemic, hospitals in this general region were filled beyond capacity by extremely sick, un-vaccinated patients from Shawano County. Routine health care often had to be suspended due to the crushing demand caused by un-vaccinated residents with Covid 19 taking hospital beds away from victims of strokes, heart attacks, and car crashes on several occasions during the pandemic.
During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Republican Sheriff in this county took a public position of refusing to enforce Wisconsin state health department mandates requiring residents to wear masks in restaurants and bars. Note the Covid-19 vaccination rate in this county.

This school district is located in Shawano County. By a strong majority, the residents of this county are strong Trump supporters, and spent 2012-2018 Standing With Walker  to denigrate public school teachers at every opportunity. Not surprisingly, public education in this county suffers from a lack of support from the many county residents who are strong MAGA supporters.

Nearly every yard in this county that has a sign proclaiming support for Trump and/or contempt for President Biden and those who support him. FJB signs are more prevalent than the American flag in most areas of Shawano County.  Woe to anyone living in this county, especially a public school teacher, that doesn't openly support Trump or who dares to openly support Biden or any Democratic candidate.

Like most predominantly MAGA supporting Wisconsin counties, teacher pay and benefits in this county are pretty low. Average teacher pay in this county ranges from $51,673 to $58,629.

The Tigerton school district average teacher salary was one of the lower ones in Shawano County at $52,979.  The increase in average teacher salary since 2011  was 20.3%, which was just below the rate of inflation.

The Superintendent pay fell by 8.2% since 2011. When we see this happen, we appreciate the efforts by the school board to try to maintain the value of teachers' salaries against inflation, while likely dealing with severe financial issues caused by the woeful underfunding of public education by the Republican Dictatorship that rules Wisconsin.

Rating the career prospects for this district is a tough call in trying to balance a low average teacher salary with a school board trying it's best to at least maintain the value of teachers' salaries. For these reasons, we rate the career prospects for teachers in this district as Might be a Good Place to Work.
