This school district is located in Dane County, which historically has voted around 80% for Democrats and is the fastest growing county in Wisconsin. Buoyed by the city of Madison and the University of Wisconsin, Dane County is one of the most desirable counties in Wisconsin to live in.

Teachers in Dane County school districts earn some of the highest salaries in Wisconsin. The average teacher salaries for Dane County school districts range from $52, 546 to $65, 472 as of the 2022-23 school year. Like every Wisconsin county, some school districts are really great places to work while the school boards in other districts have used Act 10 to make their districts really lousy places to teach.

Teachers in the Verona school district earn $65,472 which is one of the highest average salaries in Dane County.  Unfortunately for teachers in this school district, this high average salary is a reflection of where salaries in this district were when the Republican Dictatorship that rules Wisconsin imposed Act 10 in July 2011. Since July 2011, the average teacher salaries in Verona have increased at only 15.1%, well below the inflation rate.

We don't think it's a question of having enough money to maintain the value of teacher salaries, we feel that the Verona school board prioritizes the contribution of the Superintendent (and likely other administrators) far more than they prioritize retaining high quality teachers in this district.  During the same time period, the Superintendent pay increased by over 50%, over THREE TIMES the increase in average teacher salaries.

Even though Verona teachers earn one of the highest average salaries in Dane County, we don't think that will last too many years into the future with the current school board priorities. For these reasons, we rate the career employment potential for teachers in this district as a Dead End job.
