This school district is located in Dane County, which historically has voted around 80% for Democrats and is the fastest growing county in Wisconsin. Buoyed by the city of Madison and the University of Wisconsin, Dane County is one of the most desirable counties in Wisconsin to live in.

Teachers in Dane County school districts earn some of the highest salaries in Wisconsin. Like every Wisconsin county, some school districts are really great places to work while the school boards in other districts have used Act 10 to make their districts really lousy places to teach.

The average teacher salary in Verona has increased by 25% since 2011, which was below the inflation rate.

We don't think it's a question of having enough money to maintain the value of teacher salaries, we feel that the Verona school board prioritizes the contribution of the Superintendent (and likely other administrators) far more than they prioritize retaining high quality teachers in this district.  During the same time period, the Superintendent pay increased by 59.6%, which was well above the inflation rate.

Even though Verona teachers earn some of the highest average salaries in Dane County, we don't think that will last too many years into the future with the current school board priorities. It has been our experience that districts that screw teachers while lavishing huge pay increases on the Superintendent are shitty places to live and teach.

For these reasons, we rate the career employment potential for teachers in this district as a Might Be a Good Place to Work.
